Regular oil and filter changes are a vital to maximizing the life span of your vehicle. Oil contains additives that help to lubricate your car's engine. Over time and increased mileage the oil in your vehicle becomes contaminated with dirt and metal particles and thus does not work as effectively. Eventually oil becomes too contaminated to be effective. Regular oil and filter changes help to combat damage to the engine and internal component which can prove costly to fix later.

Regular versus Synthetic Oil

Here at Hometowne we recommend an oil change at 5,000 mile intervals if using synthetic oil and 3,000 mile intervals if using regular oil. The difference between synthetic oil and conventional oil is that synthetic oil contains extra additives which combat the temperature and contaminates of the engine for longer than conventional oils. Some vehicle manufacturers state that only synthetic oil (like Mobil one) should be used when changing the oil. These include Mercedes, BMW, and Lexus.

Something else to consider is the conditions that you are driving under. Conditions that are considered "severe" require more frequent oil changes. Severe is described as:

  • Stop and go traffic areas
  • Driving in dusty conditions
  • Extended highway speeds during hot temperatures

What is the Hometowne difference

Even though a lot of vehicles don't have lubrication points on the ball joints and tie rod ends we do check so if your vehicle does have them we take care of it during this service. This has become a very overlooked part of the service but Hometowne checks every time.

Part of our service is we include a tire rotation at no extra charge. We have trained and certified technicians to evaluate your brakes and let you know what is going on.
