{"id":1246,"date":"2020-11-24T15:28:38","date_gmt":"2020-11-24T20:28:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hometowneautorepairandtireofwoodbridge.com\/blog\/?p=1246"},"modified":"2022-12-09T11:39:15","modified_gmt":"2022-12-09T16:39:15","slug":"car-ready-winter","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hometowneautorepairandtireofwoodbridge.com\/blog\/car-ready-winter\/","title":{"rendered":"Is your car ready for winter?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Is your car ready for winter?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As the upcoming season approaches, it\u2019s important to make sure that it\u2019s prepared as much as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are a few items you should check as the cooler months begin to settle in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Kg3DvRhUkFo\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Windshield wipers: <\/strong>One of the things that you\u2019ll want to look at are your wiper blades to see if they are streaking on the windshield, or if the ends are cracked or damaged.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Windshield washer fluid: <\/strong>You\u2019ll want to take a look at your washer fluid to make sure it\u2019s set for the correct temperature levels. Around here, \u2013 20 is good. There\u2019s another good reason why the windshield washer fluid should be checked \u2013 sometimes, drivers will pre-dilute it during the warmer months. This can result in the tank freezing and cracking as colder temperatures set in.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Defroster and heat:<\/strong> Speaking of the windshield, make sure to test the defroster, which is especially handy on those mornings we see frost and after we get some snow. We also recommend you check to see if you have any car heater problems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Antifreeze: <\/strong>Checking your antifreeze level and also the protection level of the antifreeze are a couple of other ways you can get your car ready for winter. Just because the antifreeze may look green, or red, or blue \u2013 depending on the car \u2013 you actually want to make sure that the temperature protection level is good.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coolant:<\/strong> Coolant is another important fluid that needs to be looked at. This fluid helps the engine continue to run at a safe temperature, preventing it from overheating.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Car battery:<\/strong> Check the level in the battery, make sure that it\u2019s alright. Weak batteries often die in extremely hot or cold temperatures. Some of them don\u2019t have a way for you to check the water, but you can actually have a little eyelet that shows green or red if it\u2019s good.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tire pressure:<\/strong> It\u2019s a great time to check your tire pressure, because the PSI can drop with the temperature. If you notice that the tires seem lower than usual, this is probably the issue. Only one tire looking low, however, could mean that you have a flat. It\u2019s OK to run maybe 1 pound extra, just for the temper variation with the Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS), trying to keep that light out as the temperature drops.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lights: <\/strong>With it getting dark as early as it is right now, it\u2019s a great time to check the lights, but especially your headlights \u2013 making sure that they\u2019re working and that the lenses are clear.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you aren\u2019t sure whether something needs to be repaired or serviced or have any questions, reach out to a repair shop near you.
