BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire: A high quality, all-season tire

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

Are you in the market for a high quality tire with a lower price point?

The BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire may be the right fit for your vehicle.

It is very similar to the Michelin Defender Tire, Michelin’s top tire. But don’t let that be the only reason that convinces you to consider this option.

An all-season tire, the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire offers quite a few benefits that make it a favorite among many drivers.

Improved traction and great grip

Traveling in the rain or snow can be challenging and a bit stressful. The BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire is a great choice to have on your side in these conditions.

Made up of locking 3-D Active Sipe Technology, it gives you improved traction that is especially helpful when you’re driving through wet or snowy weather. Its siping helps push away water.

The tire’s excellent grip is another perk that can’t be ignored. This grip, which is possible because of silica-infused compounds, can be counted on all year long.

Reliable, comfortable option

You don’t just want a tire that can be trusted in inclement weather. It’s also important that the one you choose for your vehicle is reliable when going around corners or traveling at higher speeds. (If you live or work in Northern Virginia, you know that high speeds are a norm on major roads and highways.)

Not only does this BFGoodrich option meet those needs, it does so while also providing a comfortable ride. This can be attributed to its sidewall stabilizer. Having that trait in a tire can help make longer trips more pleasant.

A quiet ride that’s long lasting

The last thing you want to hear while commuting or running errands is a noisy tire. That’s one problem you don’t need to be concerned about when using the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire.

And this quiet ride is one you can enjoy for many miles, as it is backed by a 60,000 to 70,000 mile tread life.

Both of these qualities are the result of Computer Optimized Footprint.

How well this tire steers is another benefit that fans have noticed. The steering response is consistent, due to the Continuous Center Rib.

The BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire is one that drivers shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss.

Sizes are available for different types of vehicles, including trucks, SUVs and smaller cars.

HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire has a wide selection of tires. We also offer a nationwide road hazard warranty for all tires that we sell.

To learn more about this BFGoodrich tire or any other tires, feel free to reach out to us. One of our staff members would be happy to help you determine the best tire for your vehicle.

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

When it comes to tires, Michelin is top of line.

It produces a bunch of reliable options. One of its products – the Michelin Defender Tire – has become a favorite among drivers.

Many motorists approve of how well it performs across the different seasons. Others appreciate the long lifespan and comfortable ride it provides.

More tire sizes have become available over the years. Not only is it offered for SUVs and trucks, it can also be used by passenger vehicles and smaller cars.

Ready for any season

Having an all season tire that can be trusted in snow and rain

The Michelin Defender Tire excels in all kinds of weather. It offers great traction in dry conditions as well as wet weather.

When you’re driving on wet roads and have less time to brake, the Michelin Defender LTX M/S Tire’s grip comes in handy. It has better snow traction than other tires, as well.

Those using the Michelin Defender T + H Tire can experience control and awesome grip all year, thanks to IntelliSipe technology. This tire also features rain grooves, which reduce the chance of hydroplaning.

Michelin Tires

Michelin Defender Tire worth the investment

The investment you put into the Michelin Defender Tire is well worth it. It’s designed with EverTread Compound, which helps extend its lifespan.

This quiet tire can last you a while – as long it receives regular maintenance, such as tire rotations.

Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires go on light trucks and crossovers, and have a 70,000 mile treadwear warranty. Michelin Defender T + H tires, used on crossovers and passenger cars, can last up to 80,000 miles.

So, depending on how much you drive, this tire may not need to be replaced for several years.

The lifespan isn’t the only feature that makes the Michelin Tire a good value. If you purchase the Michelin Defender LTX M/S Tire, you could save even more money. Thanks to Michelin MaxTouch Construction, you may save as much as 65 gallons in fuel through the life of this eco-friendly tire, based on comparisons with other tires.

Replacing tires on a BMW

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

A BMW I8 recently received a couple of new tires.

The car was brought to HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire after its Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) light turned on.

The tread depth of the BMW’s rear tires was below 2/32 of an inch, which is the minimum specification for the Virginia Safety Inspection.

A manufacturer might suggest that you get new tires when the tread depth reaches 3/32 of an inch to 5/32 of an inch.

If you drive a BMW and are in need of tire repair services, we may be able to repair them, depending on the injury and its location.

Learn about when a tire is repairable.

HomeTowne Auto Repair doesn’t just repair tires. We also sell tires, including Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal.

Before replacing tires on a vehicle, our technicians make sure that they have the correct tires and that they don’t have any punctures.

Then, they use a tire machine to separate the tire from the rim.

Tire paste is used to prevent a tire from tearing as it goes on or comes off the rim.

After that, our technicians balance the tires, place them on the vehicle, and twerk them to the correct specification.

When getting new tires, it’s a good idea to have a wheel alignment performed. We also suggest road hazard warranty for the tires.

Ripped CV Boots found during Virginia Safety Inspection

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

Written by Erin Flynn

This week, I decided to have the oil changed for my Volkswagen Beetle at HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire.

Since it was already going to be in the shop, I also asked them to do a Virginia Safety Inspection.

While they were conducting the inspection, they discovered that the Constant-Velocity (CV) Boots have ripped.

The CV Boot is part of the CV Axle, and it holds in grease for the CV Joint. The CV Axle powers the wheels from the transmission.

If a vehicle loses the grease, it will cause more metal on metal friction overtime. This creates more heat and shortens the CV Joint’s shelf life.

If properly maintained, CV Boots can last 20 years. However, as soon as you get any type of oil or air mixture, it’s really bad for the rubber and causes the rubber to crack and break.

I wouldn’t have known about the CV Boots being ripped if they hadn’t performed a Virginia Safety Inspection. Depending on where you go, that sort of problem can be missed during a regular oil change.

Tire shop compared to discount tire place

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire in Woodbridge is a Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal tire dealer.

We do sell other tires, depending on the needs of the customer and what kind of vehicle they have.

As a tire shop, we can repair tires, as well. We use a patch plug from the inside, according to the Tire Industry Association guidelines.

Doing a patch plug from the inside allows you to see if there is other tire damage on the inside that you wouldn’t be able to see if you used a string plug.

We have employees who have completed training on tires.

A tire shop is also able to check your vehicle’s wheel alignment and make any needed adjustments.

You should get an alignment when you’re getting tires. This helps with the longevity of the tires, so they don’t wear out too quickly because of a suspension or steering component  problem.

Some of the discount tire places only put on tires, they don’t perform alignments and they may not necessarily do a patch plug from the inside.

HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire also recommends road hazard warranty on the tires. Therefore, if you have a problem with your tire — like, if you hit a curb or something damages the tire’s sidewall — it would be covered. At discount tire places, they may not offer that.

A lot of the time, the manufacturer’s warranty doesn’t cover items that puncture the tire while driving on the road.

When and how to check your vehicle’s tire pressure

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

It’s important to stay safe when behind the wheel.

Checking your tire pressure is one way you can protect yourself. It can also prevent your vehicle’s tires from wearing out too quickly.

Having your own tire pressure gauge is a good idea. Not every gas station pump is calibrated, and they can’t be trusted all the time.

Here is more information you should know about tire pressure:

When should I check my tire pressure?

You should check your air pressure daily. Most newer vehicles are equipped with tire-pressure monitoring system (TPMS), which will give you a signal on your dashboard when your tire pressure is low.

If your vehicle isn’t equipped with this, there are some indicators you can look out for. These include a tire’s sidewalls being wider at the bottom and poor handling.

Under Inflated tires will promote outer tire edge wear. Overinflated tires are just as dangerous, as they can wear out the center of a tire.

What are the steps to check my tire pressure?

Verifying the correct pressure is the first step in checking your tire pressure. You can find it on the door jam on the driver’s side of the vehicle or on the sidewall of the tire.

The next step is removing the valve stem cap and using a tire pressure gauge to measure the pressure. A basic tire gauge will have a stem that pops out and gives you a reading. You may also use a digital gauge, which will give you a digital number.

It’s important to double check the tire pressure to make sure you don’t have a false reading.

After checking your tire pressure, make sure to replace the valve stem cap. This can prevent corrosion of the valve stem and TPMS sensor, and help you avoid a costly repair.

Why is my car making that noise?

In Suspension, Tires & Wheels, Vehicle Maintenance by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

There are many reasons why your car can make noise. If you’re married, most of them come from the passenger seat. If you have kids, most of the noise is coming from the back seat.

All kidding aside, noises can come from anywhere, such as your suspension and tires. They may also occur as engine components wear out, belts loosen, and your vehicle experiences normal wear and tear.

The hardest part sometimes is trying to describe the noises to your auto repair shop. So, when something is irritating you, pay attention to when and where the noises are happening.

We’ve had instances when the car only made noises when it was below 45 degrees and they were turning left. Another common noise description is when a driver is in a parking lot and turning the wheel.

Information about how fast you’re going, how far you’re turning the wheel, and whether you’re pressing the gas pedal can help us find your problem faster.

The other thing to consider when you’re bringing your vehicle into the shop is to schedule time to ride with the automotive technician. That way they can ride with you and you can make the exact condition that produces the noise — which saves time and money when repairing your car.

So, if you’re the only one in your car and you still hear noises, and you’re tired of turning the radio up to tune them out (Get it? Radio — tune … ) then try to be descriptive as you can and take a ride with your mechanic.

Check out this fun video we created.

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire can be used for off-roading vehicles

In Tires & Wheels by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

A lot of travelers tend to stick with the main roads. However, many adventures can be found along the paths that see less traffic.

Off-roading is an enjoyable task for some. For others, it’s a necessary part of their jobs or hobbies.

Today, there are quite a few vehicles that are built for off-roading, including trucks and Jeeps. Tires are also produced for this purpose.

If you drive an off-roading vehicle and are looking for a new set of wheels, you may want to consider the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire.

This all season tire goes on light trucks, SUVs and CUVs.

All-Terrain traction

The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire isn’t just able to weather the elements we see in Northern Virginia on a daily basis. It’s also severe snow certified.

Motorists who choose this option are able to maneuver through soft soil as well as deep snow.

Made up of serrated shoulders, the BFGoodrich Tire offers additional traction when traveling through mud, rocks and snow. Its aggressive, all-terrain traction allows you to travel confidently.

There are also 3-D sipes, which allows it to bite down and provides the tread blocks with more stability. This trait and the optimized tire footprint shape enables the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire to wear more evenly.

This tire is backed by a 50,000 mile warranty, meaning that the average driver will be able to enjoy all of the perks it offers for a few years.

BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire features tough sidewalls

Because this BFGoodrich Tire has tougher sidewalls, sharp rocks are less likely to puncture it.

Thanks to CoreGard Technology, the rubber on the sidewall is able to withstand bruises and other injuries. The rubber is also thicker and its design causes objects to bounce off.

“What I have found best about the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire is when I’m not paying attention while driving down Dale Boulevard,” HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire Owner ST Billingsley said. “You can run over the curb while going 45 miles per hour and maintain control coming back on the road without experiencing any damage to the side wall.”

BFGoodrich KO2

Wheel alignments and other tires we recommend

Having a wheel alignment check performed is recommended when new tires are placed on a vehicle.

Placing road hazards on tires is also a good idea, especially if you often drive in construction areas. You’re more likely to pick up a nail that may become lodged in a spot that can’t be repaired.

Owned by Michelin, BFGoodrich produces reliable, high performing tires. The BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 Tire is just one we recommend. There’s also the BFGoodrich Advantage T/A Sport Tire and BFGoodrich Advantage Control Tire.

The Michelin Defender Tire and the Uniroyal Tiger Paw GTZ All Season 2 Tire are some other trusty choices.

If you’re looking for a different type of tire, reach out to our Woodbridge tire shop. One of our team members can provide some guidance.
