HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire assisting Salvation Army with Angel Tree

In Community Involvement, The Salvation Army by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire is stepping in to help with this year’s Angel Tree program, run by the Prince William Salvation Army.

This year, the Salvation Army is hoping to assist more than 6,200 families in the area, with holiday assistance. According to the Salvation Army, more than 14,000 children need toys, bikes, clothing and educational games this holiday season.

ST Billingsley, owner of HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire, was at the Manassas Mall this weekend, manning the Angel Tree, and helping residents select tags to provide gifts to families in need. Each year, we sponsor children from the Angel Tree, as well as fill in the gaps for any items children in the program have requested.

“At HomeTowne, we’re proud to support the Salvation Army, and their effort to provide gifts with the Angel Tree program for the holidays,” said Billingsley.

To get involved, all you need to do is go to one of the Angel Tree locations and select a tag with the wish list of a child in the program, then purchase the items and return them to the tree where you selected the tag, or HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire, which is a designated drop-off location.

Locations in Prince William.

Little free library at HomeTowne Auto is a hit in the community

In Community Involvement by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire’s little free library has become a popular destination in the community.

Yesterday we saw a family at the little library, looking through books, and taking some home with them.

Our little free library is internationally chartered, and is part of the Greater Prince William Little Free Libraries initiative in the community.

The library is located right in front of our store, off of Route 1 in Woodbridge.

“We know that promoting literacy in the community is one of the most important things anyone can do. The HomeTowne Auto Repair and Tire team enjoyed working on this project to create this little free library in order to give residents the chance to read a great book. Being on route 1 with many people walking by we thought it would be a great place to put one up,” said HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire owner ST Billingsley.

HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire sponsors Family Shoot Out fundraiser

In Boy Scouts, Community Involvement, Quail & Upland Wildlife Federation, Uncategorized by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

Last weekend, Hometowne Auto Repair & Tire was one of the sponsors for the Quail & Upland Wildlife Federation’s family shoot out fundraiser in Fredericksburg.

More than 77 people attended the fundraiser, doubling last year’s numbers.

According to Jerry Saggers, 80 percent of the shoot out fundraiser participants were related to the Boy Scouts organization.

24 of the participants took part in the skeet and trap shooting portion of the day.

“One of the winners of a big prize was a girl – probably about 8-years old. She won the top gun shoot of .22 and bebe gun shooting,” said Saggers.

Many of the Boy Scouts we helped sponsor at the fundraiser were able to begin work on their rifle shooting merit badge.

“Nobody got a [merit] badge, they got partials, because we didn’t have time to do the whole entire merit badge – there are two parts to it. One is the classroom part, the otheShoot out fundraiser participants.r one is the hands on shooting portion of it,” Saggers commented.

The Quail & Upland Wildlife Federation was able to raise $4,500 at the event, which they will use for their programs.

“The money’s going to be used for two purposes…one is for habitat resource projects, and the other is for our youth and outreach program,” said Saggers.

HomeTowne Auto Repair and Tire is Caring for its Neighbors

In Community Involvement, Keep Prince William Beautiful by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

HomeTowne Auto Repair and Tire wants “Hometowne” to be not just a name, but rather to create a sense of community with its neighbors and customers. That is why the shop has joined with Keep Prince William Beautiful to clean up the surrounding area.

Once a month, the team including owner, S.T. Billingsley, go out and pick up trash that has been left out in their area. The area they cover is Neabsco Mills Road from Opitz Boulevard to Dale Boulevard which is right across from Sentara Hospital’s Woodbridge location and passes the Potomac Club and Stonebridge where Wegmans is located.

Some of the items they found remained pretty consistent. Five hour energy bottles littered the intersection of Optiz and Neabsco. Additionally, diapers in various stages of decomposition were prolific on the side of road. Thank goodness the team had grabbing sticks! Our HomeTowne Tire shuttle drove by
3 days later and found another diaper in roughly the same spot. We’re hoping to catch the invisible diaper villain!

So how did the public react? Well, I am certain there were those neighbors who were grateful however; some may have seen this act as a punishment rather than a voluntary act to clean up their surroundings. In one instance, a woman passing by in her vehicle even stopped to let the boys know they missed a piece!

Fun with Pinewood Derby

In Boy Scouts, Community Involvement, Pinewood Derby by HomeTowne Auto Repair & Tire

ST Billingsley with chart on white board. Our mechanics love a challenge and building their own race car out of a block of wood and wheels was definitely a challenge. But the challenge did not stop there. Steve’s Auto Repair and Tire challenged their neighbor HomeTowne Auto Repair and Tire to a mostly friendly race. HomeTowne, being the newer of the two, accepted the challenge. The winner of the special friends and family pinewood derby race would win bragging rights, a trophy (albeit a 2013 one) and a free lunch from the owner, S.T. Billingsley, provided they could beat his race car’s time.

Pinewood derby kit. Each store was given two pinewood derby kits containing the block of wood, axels, and small wheels. Even Steve’s marketing director, Margo, got in on the action determined to create a pink car that would at least not come in last.

What ensued was at times a little less then friendly competition, but high on entertainment value and a lot of fun for all involved in supporting the Boy Scouts. We also learned that some of the technicians may be stolen away by Hollywood if we are not careful, judging by the videos hitting YouTube on both their respective pages.

The friends and family race will be held on January 23rd, so while we still don’t know who the winner will be- what we do know is that excitement is running high as is involvement and support for local Boy Scout troop 1189 here in the Montclair Woodbridge area.

We have put together a behind the scenes look.

How it all ends…

We want to thank Cub Scout Pack 1189 from Montclair Virginia for allowing us to sponsor their pinewood derby this year at John F Pattie elementary school in Dumfries, VA and a thank you to Aromas Pizza on Kevin Walker Drive right off Waterway Drive in Montclair.

Take a look at our wrap up video and see who came out on top. You might be surprised.

Thank you again hope to see you next year…
